If you miss the powerful GNU userspace utilities on Android, you are in good company.
Corbin Champion just released GNURoot, a wonderful package which provides exactly a GNU environment under Android, without rooting the device. The distro's package management functions are enabled, so you can install pre-compiled emacs, R, latex at a second's notice.
